Who Am I?
Amanda Thompsen
I am the parent of two amazing teenagers that give me hope for the future!

My husband and I moved to Hartsville in 2003 for his job at Sonoco. Shortly after, our son was born at Carolina Pines RMC and then two years later a daughter, too, was welcomed... and we've since made Darlington County our home. Our children have grown up here and go to school with many of the same children they went to preschool with. They have big dreams they hope to pursue and I know they'll be ready in large part due to the education - both academically and socially - they've received in our public schools. They've encountered many loving and encouraging teachers, and it's through this experience that I've grown to appreciate the challenges faced by educators today.

We made the conscious choice early on to be active participants in the public schools in Darlington County because the only way to improve things is to, first, participate. Today, both of our children have chosen to attend Mayo High School. Their educational foundations were built at Washington Street Elementary, West Hartsville Elementary and Hartsville Middle School.
For the last 11 years, I have worked for a large agricultural company that supplies essential tools - namely seed and crop protectants - to our community's farmers and farmers throughout the world. This work has allowed me to witness the determination of many South Carolina families to continue their farming legacies.

I was born and raised in western North Carolina, attending TC Roberson High School in Skyland, NC then pursued higher education at NC State University and Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta.

I hope to be your next Darlington County School Board, District 5 representative!
